What is a GVD Approver License?

Understanding the Approver License

The GVD Approver License is a separate software license with limited functionality, specifically designed for users whose primary role is to review and approve reports rather than conduct inspections. It is distinct from simply assigning a user to an "approver" group in a user manager; it is an actual, separate license with its own serial number.

Key Features and Limitations

Feature

Approver License Capability

Notes

Module Access

Limited to Compliance module only.

All other operational modules (Graphics, Barcode, Text, Spell, Color, etc.) are grayed out and inaccessible.

Running Inspections

Unable to run inspections.

The license is explicitly restricted from performing new inspections.

Report Approval

Can sign and approve reports.

This is the core function of the license, allowing the user to review, date, name, and add comments to finalize a report.

Access to Audit Trail

Yes, can access the Audit Trail.

Users can view the complete history of actions within the system.

Usage

Can install the software on multiple PCs, but concurrent access is limited to the number of licenses purchased.

This allows flexibility in installation while maintaining a single concurrent user limit.

Deployment and Technical Considerations

  • Database Requirement: Requires deployment within a shared database for proper operation.

  • Installation Complexity: Installation can be complex due to network requirements and IT security restrictions.

  • Common Issue (Connectivity): May require PostgreSQL database connectivity (port 5432), which is sometimes blocked by IT security teams.

  • Licensing Dependencies: Online licensing dependencies can also present deployment challenges. If it is an offline license, often requires a server that stays on 24/7 for hosting the license and database, unlike personal hardware that is turned off.

This license is specifically designed for users who need to confirm the quality and compliance of inspection results without performing the actual inspections themselves.
