Steps to ground scanner to remove any static buildup.

  1. The customer was getting “SYSLINUX 6.03 EDDBOOT ERROR,” which indicates that the motherboard was faulty.

  2. We upgraded the firmware which temporarily resolved this issue.

  3. Since the issue was temporarily solved and returned after upgrading the firmware this happens periodically, this could be a symptom of static. Some environments with carpet and/or dry air can create static. If the scanned samples are plastic versus paper can also create static build-up.

  4. A preventative would be to ground the scanner. This will remove any static buildup and try to start the scanner again.

  5. The customer will need to speak to an electrician to ground the scanner.

  6. The new scanner stands for the R44 have a grounding wire but not the older ones.

  7. This is a washing machine but the idea is the same see the below screenshot.

NOTE: Customers that have the old R44 stand can still purchase our grounding kit and install it. See the following Confluence article on Installing the Grounding Kit on Old R44 Scanner Stands
