Define Shape Layer or Separation

What Does This Feature Do?

The “Define Shape Layer or Separation” feature is mainly used to define the inspection area based on a layer or separation.

Why Use this Feature?

If the shape of an artwork is complex, this tool will help prepare files for inspection without using the cropping tool for complex shapes. By right-clicking on a layer or separation and selecting the  ”Set as shape region and hide” option, you can perform an inspection based on the shape of the artwork.

When To Use It

• Select the option  “Set as shape region and hide” when there is a layer or separation to define the shape of the inspection

When Not To Use It

• Do not select the “Set as shape region and hide” option if there are other components of the artwork defined by the same layer

• You will not be able to select the option “Set as shape region and hide” with flattened files

Expert Tips

• Test layers and separations by turning them on and off by clicking on the eye icon to see what impact it has on the file

• Use the “define shape library” feature when the inspection region is a complex shape

• Set the inspection region as default which will define the shape automatically when the file is loaded, helping to reduce file preparation time pre-inspection
